Supplier Diversity

MDC DEDICATION

The MDC will work closely with suppliers and is committed to fair treatment of all.  We pledge to provide as much information as possible on how the purchasing process works as well as specific requirements of a project.  All suppliers must go the extra step to promote their business in this ever changing environment.  We pledge to do our part in affording every opportunity to Minority/Women Owned Businesses.

SUPPLIER DIVERSITY PROCESS

For projects in which the MDC receives State of Connecticut Grant/Loan funding vendors must be certified by the Department of Administrative Services (DAS) or the Department of Transportation (DOT) in order to be qualified as a acceptable MBE/WBE subcontractor.  However, for MDC funded projects we will welcome all suppliers/vendors that are certified or in the process of being certified by the following agencies:

DAS – Department of Administrative Services

DOT – Department of Transportation

CMSDC – Connecticut Minority Supplier Development Council

City of Hartford, Purchasing Division

At the MDC all aspects of the business enjoy the advantage of diversity.  We benefit from diversity in our workforce, our customers, and of course our supplier base.  We are corporate and board members of the CMSDC and take part in several Minority Business Opportunity Trade Fairs and events throughout New England.

We are proud of our record and happy to report placing approximately $11,000,000 in business with MBE’s/WBE’s in 2006.

HOW TO GET STARTED

At the MDC we recognize that it might be difficult for a new supplier to understand how to solicit business.  Our team of buyers and our Minority Business Coordinator work closely with new suppliers in educating them on the process of becoming a qualified vendor.  Listed below are the steps necessary to be considered for doing business the MDC.

  1. Complete a vendor profile questionnaire.

  2. Forward any brochures about your company to:

  3.

Michael Jefferson, Supplier Diversity Manager, The Metropolitan District Commission, PO Box 800, 555 Main Street, Hartford, CT, 06142
    Telephone: 860-278-7850 Ext. 3411
    Fax: 860-525-5013 or Email: mjefferson@themdc.com

And,

  1. Submit at least four (4) references.

The vendor information will be logged into our current list of active vendors and will be coded accordingly.  If there are no current needs, the information will remain active until future needs arise.  Vendors are encouraged to continue to follow up with buyers to determine upcoming opportunities.
